Beatitude 4
Blessed are those who hunger
and thirst for righteousness,
for they will be filled.
(Matthew 5:6)
A Christian yearns for salvation and righteousness shown above him symbolically as a breastplate and sword. That there is justice in righteousness is shown by the balances below the breastplate. The thirst for salvation (Psalm 42.1) is shown by a figure drinking from a vase containing the waters of life, while three others cluster around him, eagerly awaiting their turn.
