Blessed are the merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.
(Matthew 5:7)
Man here is shown in a dust nature. At the top, he is shown as the dispenser of mercy and charity, shown by the blunt sword and a basket. Those tireless and active in their merciful deeds are represented by the bee. The same men are shown as the receivers of mercy, standing beseechingly to receive the bread of life, as represented by the loaf.
