At the Methodist Temple we are dedicated to providing ministries which help children
and families receive God's grace and grow in faith! Our hope for all of our children is that they will know that
they are loved and valued by God and by our church family. We seek to make
Methodist Temple a center for learning, where everyone will be challenged and helped to
make meaning of life experiences through their faith and reach out beyond themselves to
share God's love with others. Our ministry to children and families includes
opportunities for worship, education, fellowship, and service. We dedicate ourselves
to being in ministry with children, as teachers, models of discipleship, and as
friends. We agree to support our best efforts with prayer for their spiritual
growth.
Our Children's Ministries extend in community outreach through the Methodist Temple Children's Center, a weekday day care for infants and
preschoolers; and Temple Holiday and Summer Day Camps,
which offer childcare and enrichment to school-agers, when school is not in session.

 | "Alive Time" (Children's Worship)
 | During the 11:00 worship hour, children in the K-5th grade have an opportunity for their
own worship experience! Following the Children's Moment, all children, pre-school
through 5th grade, are dismissed to move to their own activities. Pre-kindergartners
are escorted to their classroom for a Bible lesson and play time, while the older children
gather in the Chapel. |
 | The school-agers participate in a developmentally appropriate, participatory
worship-learning experience. Children provide leadership for worship, by serving as
acolytes, musicians, offering users and scripture readers. There are jobs for all
ages and reading is not a skill necessary for full participation. There is lots of
singing, a Bible message and opportunity to share prayers. |
 | Parents are always welcome! |
 | Both preschoolers and "Alive Time" participants may be picked up following
worship at the chapel or the Yellowbird room in the Children's Center. |
 | There is a weekly note in the bulletin about the worship focus in "Alive
Time", so that families may discuss worship with the children. As we learn
worship by doing worship, we hope that our children will own the experience and be
prepared for joining fully in Sanctuary worship. |

 | Our Sunday School classes all have young people from 4 or 5 different schools and we
need a way to get better acquainted. |
 | One hour on Sunday morning is not enough time to get to know each other the way we'd
like to...there's a lesson to get through and it's just too busy to really make friends. |
 | We have formed the following Kids' Clubs:
 | Discovery Club for 1st - 2nd graders. |
 | Friendship Club for 3rd - 5th graders. |
|
 | There is no cost and no requirements for being part of a kids' club. Just come, ready
for anything! |
 | Meets: one Sunday afternoon a month, just to yak and snack and
play!! |

 | A commitment to meet regularly |
 | The concept of group members "watching over one another in love" |
 | A commitment to engage in both works of caring and personal devotions |
 | The notion of mutual accountability |

 | K-5th grade students meet with teaching teams who have prepared lessons from the United
Methodist curriculum, "New Invitation: Learning and Living God's Word". |
 | The material is planned to help students develop a deeper understanding and appreciation
of God's word and how it applies to daily life. |
 | The curriculum provides a three-year series of lessons from both the Old and New
Testaments and follows themes geared to the seasons of the Christian year. |
 | The lessons are coordinated so that students of all ages are studying the same themes. |
 | Materials, planned to provide a rich learning experience for all our children, include
Bible stories, music, crafts, and games appropriate to each age level. |
 | Time: 9:45 - 10:45 |
