Children's Center -- Day Care

Young children are people
in their own right
and deserve to be treated
with respect and dignity.

It is a pleasure to welcome you to the Methodist Temple Children's Center.

With teachers and parents working together, we can make this experience in your child's life a happy one.  The Center strives to provide a loving Christian atmosphere with varied learning experiences for your child when left in our care.  Although we provide daily care for your child, we know that you - the parents - are the most important influence in your young child's life.

Why Child Care?

The Methodist Temple Children's Center was founded in 1967 as a mission of the Methodist Temple by a group of women wishing to return to the work force.

During the war years many women were called upon to assume men's roles as the men were drafted into the various armed services.  As the years have gone by the social structure of our country has seen massive social change.  Women as well as men have places in the work force out of choice as well as necessity.  Child care allows families to make choices as their life style dictates.

Whatever the reason for choosing child care the services should provide a reliable and stable arrangement, a healthy and safe environment, interesting and stimulating daily activities, and caring people who truly love children.

Admission Policies

Admission of a child is given regardless of race, religion, color, or national origin.  The primary purpose for providing care is to be of assistance to a family at a time when care away from home is desired.

The Children's Center is licensed to care for children from 6 weeks of age through 6 years of age.  It is licensed by the Indiana Division of Family and Children and is supported by parents' fees.  A schedule of fees is available in the director's office.

Program

Since the Center is for the working parent, children are with us many hours a day.  Therefore, we try to insure a warm and secure atmosphere within the Center.  All children are eager and ready to live and experience the joy of learning.   The whole child approach is used.  The Learning process is focused, not the product.

THE LEARNING PROCESS

  1.   Perceptual - Motor Development

This concerns the child's ability to manipulate objects in his environment at his stage of development.

  2.   Intellectual Development

This concerns the child's ability to learn at his development stage.

  3.   Social Emotional Development

This concerns the child's ability to function as a part of a group and to interact with the children and adults.

  4.   Language Development

Concerns the child's ability to communicate his ideas and feelings verbally according to his stage of development.

  5.   Play

Play facilitates growth in all the preceding areas of development.   Play to a child is like work to an adult.  It is through the process of play that problems are solved, feelings are expressed, adult roles are imitated, and new experiences are interpreted.

The staff is challenged to keep alive the child's enthusiasm for learning, to be respectful, patient and nonjudgmental toward the child's activities.  All of the teachers have first aid training and must complete at least 12 hours of continuing education each year.  Many of the staff members are trained in CPR.

Summary

You can see how very much we care about children.  Their growth, their development, their health, and their safety are all of the utmost importance.

Children are our business!  If we can be of any help to you, your child, and your family in any way, just ask.  You may talk with the director or any other member of the staff.  The ministers of the church are also available to you for consultation.  We all believe that maintaining open communication is the best way to assure a positive experience for you and your child at Methodist Temple Children's Center.
