Temple Airs began in 1982 with the help of Ray Arensman, who purchased a suitcase full of big band sheet music.  In just 20 years the band has turned big band music into earnings surpassing $2.0 million for area charities.
	The band members, who began playing together for fun at Methodist Temple, have worked for free while performing only for non-profit organizations.
	Many of the musicians in the group are old enough to remember when the 1930s and 1940s big band music they play was popular, not nostalgic.
	On September 23, 1999, Mayor Frank McDonald II presented the Mayor's Arts Award to the Temple Airs.
